1:28. וַיְהִי כִּי־חָזַק יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיָּשֶׂם אֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִי לָמַס וְהוֹרֵישׁ לֹא הוֹרִישׁוֹ ׃ ס

1:28. כח ויהי כי חזק ישראל וישם את הכנעני למס והוריש לא הורישו  {ס}

1:28. Whenever Israel was strong militarily, they forced the Canaanites to do hard labor, but they never totally conquered them.
